“I really think there’s something that is happening under my symptoms that can be addressed and healed. I don’t think the medication is actually addressing the real problem.”
I had no idea at the time the power of my intuition and how profoundly leaning into those words would change my life.
It was almost 20 years ago and I was dealing with chronic worsening acid reflux. I was at the doctor again trying to find a solution and I said that to her. And with no further conversation, she skipped past everything I had said about wanting to seek a different path to healing and prescribed a different medication to try. I didn’t take the samples and never filled the prescription. Instead I chose to follow my intuition about my body communicating its real needs to me.
And that has made all the difference.
It is what helped me manage my PCOS symptoms so that I could conceive naturally when I was told I never would.
It is what has led to my thyroid numbers continuing to be in the normal range without medication despite a hypothyroid diagnosis and being told the medication would be my only solution for ever having energy.
It is what has led to being able to come back from the effects of pregnancy and birth that led to debilitating back pain and lack of energy for basic daily tasks.
It has buoyed me through grief, a global pandemic, and flair ups from other chronic health challenges.
And yes, it also rid me of the acid reflux so I have been able to joyfully indulge in coffee and hot salsa with no acid reflux (other than during pregnancy) in over a decade.
I learned that my body was always communicating to me, telling me what it needed, that in my symptoms lived messages. All I needed was to relearn how to listen and have the support to put the pieces together of what the message was. I learned to support my body’s natural processes according to the rhythms it was meant to operate best within.
And that’s what I can help you do too.
My Values
Weight Neutral Support
I do not promote intentional weight loss as a means to improved health. Instead my work prioritizes improving objective measures of health, by focusing on the function of the body and supporting the areas needing more nourishment.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
I will always strive to create spaces that center every person's humanity and all have equal opportunities to participate and succeed.
(A more thorough policy will be released at a later date)
Regenerative Living
More than sustainability. Regeneration renews the health of the planet as well as the health of humans. It means adapting together with nature, living in communion with it, not in extraction from it. It is how Indigenous peoples have existed for thousands of years before colonization.
Holistic Wellness
How well we feel is not just about the health habits we maintain. It is about the ancestral baggage we carry, the physical and societal environment we live in, our access to resources, and much more. I hold that reality in mind as we work together. And I commit to advocating for better systems that support the whole person.
